Dear film lovers!
Welcome to the very first edition of the film festival Little Europe. Even though the idea of the festival was born quite recently and the festival is, as they say, still in its infancy, in its short life, it has managed to envision great things and set the goals high. As a matter of fact, this festival aims to present the most extraordinary treasures of recent years’ cinematography of selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) to the audience. Although the film selection focuses mainly on narrative films, the programme also includes several documentaries. The dramaturgy of the festival tries to both affirm and destroy the stereotypes concerning the mentalities of individual nations and their cinematography.
The selected films tell stories of everyday heroism, of dramas taking place in small towns or communities, or the successes and downfalls of ordinary people, highlighting the theme of this year’s edition: A Little Big Man. The films offer a rich insight into specific regions and therefore, they can valuably contribute to broader discussion about globalisation, about the challenges that the cinematography of smaller nations face nowadays, and about the questions of national and regional identity. These films and their creators are in a constant dialogue with reality, they analyse and transform it and thus make it universal.
Come and join us for the screenings which will take place in the Toldi Cinema between the 25 and 27 April 2023!
